Practice Nurse Services
Our Practice Nurses provide a range of clinical services that support preventative care, long-term condition management and patient education. Nurse appointments are often suitable for routine follow-ups, monitoring and scheduled health checks, working closely with your GP when required.
Practice Nurse services include:
- Cervical Screening
Cervical smears and screening appointments in line with national guidelines. - Childhood Immunisations
Routine childhood vaccinations as part of the New Zealand Immunisation Schedule. - Vaccinations
Including Influenza, COVID-19, Shingles (Shingrix), Boostrix and other recommended vaccines. - Diabetes and Cardiac Reviews
Ongoing monitoring and support for long-term conditions, including free annual diabetes reviews for eligible patients with diabetes. - Patient Education and Support
Practical education and guidance for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, dietary management and premenstrual tension (PMT). - Ear Syringing
Assessment and removal of ear wax where clinically appropriate. - Spirometry (Lung Function Testing)
- Lung function testing to support the assessment and monitoring of respiratory conditions.
Appointments with a Practice Nurse may be booked directly, or as part of a GP-led care plan.
When to Book a Nurse vs a GP
A Practice Nurse appointment may be suitable for:
- Cervical screening
- Routine vaccinations and immunisations
- Diabetes and cardiac reviews
- Ear syringing
- Spirometry (lung function testing)
- Follow-up monitoring and patient education
A GP appointment is usually required for:
- New or complex medical concerns
- Diagnosis of illness or injury
- Prescriptions or medication changes
- Mental health assessments
- Medical certificates or specialist referrals
